As early as they can comprehend, children absorb the idea that the elderly are physically closer to death than the young. Wrinkles, and symptoms of age on the faces of grandparents, or moms of older children, serve as a constant reminder to children or grandchildren that they may soon be separated from individuals they hold dear – just because they are old.
When women visit my clinic, I often hear that their grandchildren or younger children were the ones who first pointed out their wrinkles.
In most cases, young children of a mother or grandmother who has undergone cosmetic surgery are the first in the family to notice a difference.
As adults, we are also saddened by the aging of others we care about, even if we try not to acknowledge it. So often, the desire to revitalize our look stems from our responsibility to continue making our loved ones and partners happy who see us every day.
