With a comprehensive perspective on the direction of science and integrative medicine, Dr. Bar focused on male pattern baldness for his doctoral thesis at Tel Aviv University’s Department of Medicine.
His first scientific achievement was made public in 1993 when he conducted ground-breaking research and found that saw palmetto plants effectively suppress the activity of the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase. He became one of the researchers who contributed to the development of Propecia.
Based on these findings, the latest recommended treatment plan for male pattern baldness involves blocking the action of the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase, which lowers the amount of DHT hormone in the scalp.
It is currently accepted that hair follicles can usually be restored to full physiological activity up to ten years after the balding process started.
